Just Hardware now

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next. The case with all of its neat dovetails and a fixed divider between the drawer enclosure and the upper space was made, doors were hung, and the single drawer made and fitted. I’d thought consistently about hardware, door pulls, catches, bolts and such for some time; …

EBay Works so Well

eBay is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, or so it seems. It seems such a small thing to buy a simple sliding bolt for a cabinet or the exact hinges you to hang your doors on. Then there are those now quite unique countersunk head brass screws that cost …

Property Search & A Bad Surprise

In this part of my moving vlog series I’ll give you an update on our house sale here in Denver as well as show you some of the properties we’re looking at in Missouri. I also include some tips and tricks for things to look out for if you’re searching for your own woodworker-friendly property.

When you’re looking for properties that already have potential separate shop spaces, the terms I found helpful were: Outbuilding, detached garage, second garage, shop, barn and horse property.

Once you find a property, be sure to contact the local zoning department and ask them what you can and can’t do on the property. Here are some questions to consider: How many buildings can be on the property? Do the buildings need to be attached to the home? Can I run a business on this property? Can I hire employees?

As you’ll see in the video, we found a property we liked and put in an offer. You’ll have to watch the video to find out what happened.

Something New To Think on

I thought I might pass something along, something that explains that might interest you as it does me. It’s solid and it’s mostly about a solidity we might not consider and think about. I have often suggested that what people, woodworkers and sellers of planes and plane irons, often talk about is plane chatter, how …

Sharing and together

Sharing and together interchange in an exchange without loss of shared space as each absorbs the other in an irreplaceable intimacy at every turn and change of  direction where affection remains safe in a joint endeavour to share and care. I look to the ones I share with and togetherness means to gather in a …

M.Power recently released their Triple Diamond Sharpening Station that features three diamond stones and three leather covers for stropping. It’s a capable system but could it possibly be a one-stop shop for woodworkers? Watch the review to find out.

If you like what you see, consider purchasing the sharpening station through our Amazon link.

Moving Again?! Yup!

If you can believe it, we’re moving again! This time, we’re headed to Missouri for two reasons: more family and more land. The video explains the situation pretty well but if you want to hear a little more detail on the reasons this move came about, check out this episode of Wood Talk.

I plan to document this move in a series of vlog videos so if you want to keep up with the latest, stay tuned. I’m looking forward to taking you on the journey with me.

If you want to take a stroll down memory lane and see some of the content related to past moves, check out the Marc’s Shop section of the site.

A man baited me with a question I didn’t resist. I’d just done a remarkable demonstration of cutting a twin-tailed, two-minute dovetail with to a perfect fit for an audience of 200 who cheered and clapped when I’d done. From the back of the audience he shouted, “What’s the difference between using a power tool …

Tools of the trade

Finishing means beginning again. I take wood from stacks and racks, search the small offcuts kept in case for suitable sections that might work for this rail or that stile and soon my rough-sawn stock leans standing by my bench. I begin truing up the first face of each one, the wide face, get rid …

The Essential Book For Your Hand Tools

I’ve written so much about my using hand tools in my daily woodworking through the years, as a full-time maker my reasoning is sound. Combining writing with teaching many thousands in my woodworking classes one-on-one (over 6,500 to date) enabled me to better understand the need. I have now taught woodworking in the USA, England, …
